14.06.26 — The Morning aerah Came Alive

Behind aerah | Estimated read: 6 minutes

What aerah's first brand activation taught us about building in India

Most D2C skincare brands in India launch online and stay there. We wanted aerah's first real-world moment to reflect everything the brand stands for: science you can feel, community that is genuinely mixed, and an experience built for the era we are in. June 14 was that moment.

The week before June 14 had no business being as chaotic as it was.

Colours of the experience zone: debated, changed, debated again. Mirrors: decided at midnight, six hours before setup. A DJ console that arrived late enough to make us question everything. A curated menu of drinks that kept two Beanly baristas up through the night, sleeping on a pavement and a bench outside the café so they could open at 5AM and finish the last of the preparations.

Every problem felt like the first problem we had ever solved. Because it was.

Arriving at the venue

When we reached Panchsheel that morning and started pulling testing samples out of the cars, friends and family already in aerah t-shirts, the experience zone taking shape in front of us, something shifted. The anxiety didn't disappear. It just made room for something else.

Having something this beautiful feel real was unreal.

We were at the breakthrough of something we had only ever seen in our heads.

The baristas who slept on the pavement

Before anything else, this needs to be said.

The Beanly team, both baristas, stayed outside the café premises through the night. Slept on a bench and a pavement so they could be ready at 5AM for our event. The curated drinks, the pick-your-poison coupons, the menu we had spent weeks thinking through: none of it happens without them.

In that moment, seeing that kind of support from people who had no obligation to give it, we understood something: the people around aerah were going to be the reason aerah makes it.

14.06.26 — how the morning unfolded

People started arriving early. Over 300 of them at Beanly, a number we had not let ourselves imagine out loud.

The Bhag boys took the lead on the warmup. Then the 5K run began.

Before the runners left, SPF testing samples were distributed through a vinyl board: a tactile, physical moment where people could actually apply the sunscreen and head out into a UV index that was already climbing by 9:30AM. Science made tangible, not just readable.

While the runners were en route, a chest full of samples moved through the crowd. By the time everyone was back, the music had begun. 7:30AM, post-run, afro house filling a South Delhi morning. We set up the experience zone: products displayed, packaging out, everything that had lived in a spreadsheet or a mood board now existing in three dimensions.

The drinks vanished within minutes. Every detail of the curated menu, thought through, argued over, revised: gone in the best possible way.

The experience zone

Two mirrors. One on the terrace. One on the wall of the experience zone.

Not decoration. An invitation: to stop, to look, to photograph, to share. People did. They tagged aerah. They brought the morning into their own feeds and stories.

For a brand that had existed only on a screen for less than a month, seeing aerah live inside someone else's moment was a zenith we did not know we were building toward.

Afro house at 7AM and a tug of war

Inside and outside, people were moving. The DJ, once the console finally arrived, brought afro house into a South Delhi morning and somehow it was exactly right.

Muskaan and Shitanshu moved through the crowd, explaining aerah to person after person. Not pitching. Talking. About the formula, about why PA++++ matters in Indian sun, about what it took to get here.

There was a tug of war. There was an ice bucket. There was laughter at 7AM in a way that felt earned.

What June 14 actually was

It was aerah's first time in the world. Not on a website, not in a Shopify dashboard, not in a financial model. In the world. With people. In the sun.

300 strangers, and then not strangers anymore.

The curated drinks. The vinyl SPF board. The mirrors on the terrace. The baristas who slept on a bench. The DJ console that almost didn't make it. The t-shirts. The testing samples pulled from the back of a car at 6:30AM.

Every detail, every late night decision, every anxious week: it compounded into one morning that felt, in the end, like the only way it could have gone.

In that moment, a voice, quiet and certain, said: we will make it bigger.

We intend to.

aerah is live at aerah.co. The sunscreen that went on 300 wrists that morning, and the rest of the range, is here.
